UNITED FRESH SUSTAINABILITY GUIDELINES

In 2015, the New Zealand government, alongside all United Nations member states, committed to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the 2030 Agenda, Transforming Our World.

The 17 SDGs are broad in scope and supported by 169 specific targets; however, these targets address general industry needs rather than the unique requirements of the fresh produce sector.

The United Fresh Guidelines: Towards Achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), written by the AgriChain Centre as the United Fresh Technical Advisory group, were created to provide New Zealand’s fresh produce sector with a clear, industry-specific roadmap for adopting sustainable practices aligned with the SDG framework.

These tailored guidelines address the unique challenges and opportunities of New Zealand’s fresh produce industry, enabling a more effective response to global sustainability goals while supporting operational needs and growth objectives.

The Guidelines ‘Towards Achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals‘ can be downloaded from the United Fresh website.

“Should you be concerned, operating as a horticultural production unit, a packhouse, a wholesale produce market, a retail business selling fresh fruit and vegetables, or a logistics provider servicing the physical produce supply chain structure? Yes, you should! Our country has committed itself to achieving the 17 SDGs by 2030. Each SDG comes with several targets requiring immediate action. There are a total of 169 targets associated with the 17 SDGs.”
